What happens at an information session on college visits?
So I am a high school junior and I am going to be visiting some colleges for spring break, but I see that when I am trying to schedule tours (the ones that students lead) that there is also something called an information session. What happens during this session? Do you suggest I do it in addition to the student tour or should I just skip it?|||Usually the information session runs through all the aspects of the school: residence life, study abroad, financial aid, the academic program, whatever. The vast majority of the information will not be anything new, but usually you'll hear about a few things that might tip your decision one way or the other. If you're really pressed for time you can skip it, but I recommend attending if you can to continue to get a feel for the college and maybe learn some interesting facts that you might not have known about.|||If you're making a special trip to visit the college, by all means take advantage of the information sessions. At Ohio University, students and families meet with admissions staff, financial aid staff, take a campus tour, and meet faculty members in their academic areas of interest. They can also take a look at the typical residence hall rooms and eat in the dining halls. Those info sessions will give you a better insight on the major you're considering...what kind of jobs you can get, what classes you'll be taking, etc. You will probably learn more at the info session than by doing anything else during your visit.
