When I made an appointment, they told me that I would need to attend a mandatory assessment session. Does that mean they wont be able to give me anti-depressants right away? What will happen at this "session"?|||Ask you why your there, whats happening in your words. They then ask you questions relating to the symptoms/problems you describe to them. If you have a history of mental illness you'll probably be given some medications but if you're just now seeing them its a 50/50 shot. They may or may not give you anything. Diagnoses take a while to appear as it involves medication usage, symptoms, and much more information including your family history. It'll probably last about 30 mins. My first visit for my problems resulted in receiving medication but my diagnoses was not given until a few months later when I was hospitalized. So like me, they may give you something for now but not a diagnoses until a few months down the line when they can view your habits, feelings, etc.|||Depends on whether you officially have a depression diagnosis or not (as of yet).
If you don't have a diagnosis, they have to assess you (put you through a bunch of tests, interview you and your parents and teachers, etc, and make you fill out paperwork and surveys) to see if you really do have depression. Only then will they be able to prescribe you anti-depressants, and that's only if they decide that anti-depressants will be the best treatment for you.
If you do have a diagnosis already, they may just be assessing your medical and mental status to see if they CAN/SHOULD prescribe you medication.|||If you can avoid taking antidepressents it would be in your best interest to do so. They have extreme side effects. I ended up with a condition called Akathesia due to antidepressents. It's a side effect that is highlighted by involuntary shaking of the limbs to almost Pakensins disease levels. Thank God that it was temporary in my case, but it didn't go away easily. I have met very few people who benefit from taking psychotropic drugs much. Don't let people tell you that some magic pill is the only solution to normal human emotions. Also don't believe them if they tell you you have a psychiatric illness that is permanent and can only be relieved with drugs. Lilly and all the other drug companies are money hungry monsters who dupe people into paying them for the rest of thier natural lives. You might get lucky and be one of the few the drugs help, but why take the chance. I suggest looking for alternative means to relieving your stress, anxiety and depression.|||You can get them then. If you are not suicidal which is what they want to know. Also to see if you have health problems. And just what kind of problems you are having. No big deal. Any good doctor needs to ck you out you know. Anti depressants are what helped me.|||They will assess you to see how you are functioning. You may or may not receive meds at this visit depending on how you present w symptoms.
