What do therapists usually ask about in a therapy session?

My mother wants me to go to a therapy session with a psychiatrist. How does the first meeting usually go? I am so nervous.|||They will ask about the symptoms. They will want to know how long the problem has been going on, and if anything happened in your life that might have brought the symptoms on. They will ask about medical conditions, and medications that you are taking. A psychiatrist will probably prescribe some sort of medication based on your diagnosis. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor, but there are other mental health professionals that do no prescribe medication. All are trained extensively, and do this all the time. It's nothing to worry about. Worst case scenario, you will start feeling better. If you don't like it, or it doesn't help, you simply stop going... but give it a chance.|||You will be speaking with a person who will diagnose you to see if any chemicals/in pill form mostly are in order. He is an MD with study in psychiatry. Likely he has not been an active MD for years if ever. He wants you to be comfortable, and has a hard time limit. He is costly.
